Type 01

Detached ADU

A standalone dwelling unit separated from the main residence. Maximum privacy for tenants and owners. The most popular ADU configuration in California.

Size range: 400 to 1,200 sq ft

Type 02

Attached ADU

Shares one or more walls with the primary residence while maintaining an independent entrance. Efficient use of existing structural elements.

Size range: 400 to 1,200 sq ft

Type 03

Junior ADU

A JADU is carved out of the primary residence, up to 500 sq ft. Often a converted bedroom with a small kitchenette. Fastest to permit.
