The Kearns had a 3,200 sq ft single story on a corner lot and wanted to add housing for her aging mother without building a standalone structure. They needed privacy for mom but easy access to the main home.
We designed a two story attached ADU that shares one wall with the primary residence but has its own entrance, driveway access, and outdoor space. The first floor houses a master suite and accessible bathroom. The second floor is a living room, kitchen, and second bedroom. A connecting door on the shared wall remains locked by default but provides internal access when needed.
Visually reads as a single seamless expansion. Neighbors could not tell where the original home ended and the ADU began. Mom has full independence with caregivers able to access when needed. Construction completed in seven months.
